Siliguri, West Bengal · Est. 2020An NGO in Siliguri, showing up since 2020.
Humrahi Foundation is a government-recognised, registered NGO with its office in Siliguri, West Bengal — running food distribution, school adoption, health camps and waste-management drives across the city and district.
A Siliguri story, still being written
Humrahi Foundation began during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, when founder Lalan Mahato set out with a van, a few pairs of hands, and a quiet refusal to let anyone in Siliguri go hungry. There was no plan, only presence — the instinct behind everything Humrahi has built since.
Today Humrahi is a government-recognised, registered NGO with its office at Parameshwar Niwas, Gudiya Jote, Matigara, Siliguri, West Bengal 734010 — led by founder-president Lalan Kumar Mahato alongside an executive team and board who look after strategy, finance and governance. You can meet the full board on our about page.
The daily meals taught us something the crisis hid: a hot meal steadies a day, but a job steadies a life. So alongside direct relief, Humrahi is also building a wider idea for Siliguri — a living network where sustainable enterprises, fellow NGOs and local livelihoods reinforce each other, with Humrahi holding the connections rather than sitting at the centre.
“Humrahi means fellow traveller — the one who walks beside you, not ahead of you.”
What we run in and around the city
Food distribution
The foundation of everything else: a hot meal served daily outside Siliguri Medical College for 1,500 days between 2020 and 2026, 200–300 plates a day, more than 4,00,000 meals served in total. Read the full story →
School adoption
Schools in underserved parts of Siliguri are adopted outright — given resources, programmes and a steady Humrahi presence, not a one-time visit. More than 5,000 students have been supported so far. See the schools we've adopted →
Health camps
Free health camps and blood donation drives are taken directly into Siliguri neighbourhoods, bringing basic medical care to people who'd otherwise have to travel far to see a doctor. See our health camps →
Waste management & cleanup drives
Cleanup and waste-management drives keep the streets of Siliguri a little cleaner, with plastic reduction and recycling woven into the same effort that keeps our adopted schools running. More on this side of our work →
A government-recognised, registered NGO
Humrahi Foundation holds 12A, 80G, CSR-1, NGO Darpan and FSSAI registrations. Beyond the paperwork, the work has been acknowledged by the institutions we partner with in Siliguri — blood banks, Lions and Rotary chapters, schools and the local administration. Every rupee raised is tracked, and our certificates and annual reports are published in full — see them on our transparency page.
