What we can't accept
- Clothes that are torn or damp, because wet cloth cannot be handed to a family.
- Cooked meals and leftovers.
- Food that has been opened, or is past its date.
None of this is fussiness. Everything that arrives is sorted by hand and passed on to a family, so anything that cannot be passed on has to be thrown away by us instead of by you.

When there's an emergency, this is where it goes
Year-round collection and emergency relief use the same door. When an appeal is running, what comes in is channeled there first. The Assam collection after the 2026 floods ran that way and is now closed. That page is the record of where it went. Our live appeal is the Nepal floods of 26 August 2026, and that one takes a short, specific list and nothing else: solar lights, building materials and household items — not food, not clothes. The need there has moved from relief to rebuilding. Nothing is couriered across, because Kakarbhitta is an international customs border and relief material does not simply cross it; what comes in is dropped in Siliguri and travels on our own vehicle. For Nepal, money still moves furthest, because on the Nepali side it buys the same things without crossing anything.
Between appeals, the same clothes and sealed dry food go into our ongoing work in and around Siliguri. If you'd rather give money than goods, the donate page takes one-time and monthly gifts, with an 80G receipt emailed automatically.

How do I donate clothes in Siliguri?
Wash them, fold them, and bring only what is whole, nothing torn and nothing damp. Everyday wear in every size is welcome, along with sweaters and jackets, blankets and shawls, pants and bottoms, scarves and dupattas, and children's clothes and warmers. Bring the bundle to our collection point at Parameshwar Niwas, Gudiya Jote, Matigara, Siliguri, Darjeeling district, West Bengal 734010. Can I donate excess food?
Sealed, in-date dry food only: packaged staples that still open safely days later. Cooked meals and leftovers cannot be accepted, and neither can anything already opened or past its date. Do you accept cooked food?
No. Cooked meals and leftovers cannot be accepted, and neither can food that has been opened or is past its date. Sealed, in-date dry food is welcome on the same terms as clothes. If what you want is to help feed people, a donation to our work in Siliguri is the faster way to do it.
Do you collect clothes all year, or only during a flood appeal?
All year. Humrahi collects clothes and sealed, in-date dry food at the Siliguri collection point through the year, not only while an emergency appeal is running. When a goods appeal is active it is channeled there first, as our Assam collection was in 2026. Our current appeal, for the Nepal floods, takes money plus a short in-kind list — solar lights, building materials and household items, and not food or clothes — because nothing can be couriered across an international border and everything goes over on our own vehicle.
