Your dataPrivacy Policy
How we handle the personal information you share with us, written to follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Last updated: 2 July 2026
Humrahi Foundation ("Humrahi", "we", "us") is a registered NGO based in Siliguri, West Bengal. We respect your privacy and collect only the information we genuinely need to run our programmes, process donations, and stay in touch. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act").
1. What we collect
We collect personal data only when you choose to give it to us — for example, when you donate, volunteer, subscribe, or contact us. This may include:
- Contact details — name, phone number, email address, and city.
- Donation details — amount, payment reference, and (where you want an 80G receipt) your PAN. Card and bank details are handled by our payment partner, not stored by us.
- Volunteer details — your areas of interest and availability.
- Website usage — only if you accept our cookie banner, privacy-friendly and cookieless analytics (pages viewed and referring site) via Plausible. Nothing is collected until you opt in (see Cookies below).
2. Why we use it
- To process your donation and issue a receipt and 80G certificate.
- To coordinate volunteering and respond to your messages.
- To send updates you've asked for, such as our newsletter (you can opt out any time).
- To meet legal, tax and audit obligations.
We process your data on the basis of your consent or to fulfil a request you've made. We do not use it for any purpose you wouldn't reasonably expect.
3. Cookies & tracking
We keep tracking to a minimum:
- We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- We store your cookie-banner choice in your browser's local storage (not a cookie, and never sent to us) so we don't ask again.
- If you click Accept, we load Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that is cookieless and does not track you across sites. If you decline, no analytics loads.
- Embedded videos play via YouTube's no-cookie domain, and only after you click play. Links to Facebook, Instagram and our Substack take you to those third-party services, which have their own privacy policies.
You can change your mind any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser.
4. Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- our payment gateway, to process donations;
- service providers (such as email or analytics tools) acting on our instructions; and
- government authorities, where the law requires it.
5. Keeping it safe & how long we keep it
We store personal data securely and limit access to people who need it. We keep it only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected or as required by tax and audit law, after which it is deleted.
6. Your rights under the DPDP Act
As a Data Principal, you have the right to:
- access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we process it;
- ask us to correct or update inaccurate or incomplete data;
- ask us to erase your data when it is no longer needed;
- withdraw your consent at any time; and
- nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at wecare@myhumrahi.org.
7. Children's data
We do not knowingly collect personal data of children under 18 without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian. Beneficiary children in our programmes are documented only with the consent of their guardians.
8. Grievance contact
If you have any concern about how we handle your data, contact our grievance officer:
